There was plenty of hot water and the AC worked well. It cost $250,000 to build, and many considered it the most elegant hotel west of the Mississippi River.

At about $200/night, the place is not really a bargain but it is upscale and right on the rim of the canyon. Book a room at one of the best hotels in Grand Canyon with the AARP Travel Center powered by Expedia. I was a little worried after reading earlier reviews about the hotel on Tripadvisor, but those fears vanished as soon as we arrived. Not bad for 12 meals for 3 people.
El Tovar offers guests full bell service, and in-room dining for breakfast and dinner.
In 1987 the Hotel was designated a National Historic Landmark.
Beware... the pasta dishes the other two had were tasteless and not very edible. The waitress had "no comment" on some of the food items we asked her about and didn't see much of her.
The hotel was built from local limestone and Oregon pine. The Chicago architect envisioned the hotel as a cross between a Swiss chalet and a Norwegian Villa. The balcony overlooks the Grand Canyon - the view at sunrise was breathtaking. This was my husbands and I’s first time to Grand Canyon. Where are you going to go when they tell you that the rate for the second night has "gone up." The El Tovar is beautiful. Taxes and fees that are shown are estimates only. Didn't get a window table, but still lovely. Taxes and fees that are shown are estimates only. Our suite was very large and comfortable. That's a scam in my book.
