On a hiking and art trail that opens onto the vast landscape of the Hautes-Corbières, the Mayronnes sculpture trail presents contemporary sculptures in the open air, between vineyards and scrubland, rooted in the landscape and in harmony with nature. In this exceptional natural setting, the aim is to promote contemporary sculpture in all its diversity and to make the link between artistic creation and rural life, and between nature and sculpture. There is a free car park where you start the walk. Mayronnes sentier sculpturel. Mayronnes est un village très ancien (10ème siècle); il a été trouvé des monnaies très curieuses remontant aux anciens habitants des Corbières les “Volces Tectosages”.
Some fairly hard uphill climbs. This starts at a parking lot beside a tiny village in the mountains in the middle of nowhere. The paths...The sentier sculpturel is well worth a trek - the permanent exhibition, founded by a local artist called Bozo, is patchy (sometimes literally - vandalism has been an issue unfortunately).

There is a significantly longer walk that follows a wide gravel road near the start of the ascent, and meets the sculpture trail after a while that offers an easy loop to short circuit the trail if you end up like me with heat sickness. Here, art poses questions about the human condition, our relationship with the world and with nature. Views are stunning. The walk is about 3 miles and a little rugged in places - especially if you decide to cut the walk short and pick your own way back along one of the makeshift trails. You quickly climb high above the car park and village and get some great beautiful views across the mountains.
I would recommend this for people who enjoy hikes, nature, and lovely vistas, but not on the hottest day of the year! This is a very unusual walk in a fairly remote area 15 miles or so from Carcassone.

Art work interesting too. 3.14103137556 miles - Easy - by stevecracknell. Quite often in summer there is nothing parked in the car park. We went on a rather hot day, and even though we brought bottled water, we didn't make it very far along the trail, which seemed to be entirely uphill. Across the road is a map of the various routes you can take. It can be very hot in summer on the hill - so worth taking plenty of water.
